Skin Types
The skin is the largest organ of the human body receiving about one third of the blood that circulates through the body. It provides protection, thermoregulation, sensation, and allows secretion of sebum and sweat. For support of all these functions it needs individual care depending on the skin type. In order to achieve an optimal efficacy of our product series, care products need to be well-selected for each individual skin type. Your skin type depends on internal factors such as gender, age, genetic disposition and nutrition as well as external factors such as skin care behaviour, humidity, UV-light exposure, temperature and environmental toxins. Apart from your skin type (normal, oily and dry skin) being primarily based on the lipid and moisture content of skin, sensitivity and age are essential for the right choice of product.
Normal Skin
Normal skin is robust, firm and well-vascularized. It shows a smooth and even texture without greasy patches and flakes. Normal skin has the right balance in oil levels, looks healthy and has neither imperfections nor open pores nor spots or blemishes. This skin type needs just to be maintained by regularily care with moisturizing O/W emulsions and creams.
Oily Skin
Oily skin has shiny oily appearance, is robust and thicker, and could be showing scarring from spots. It is less subject to wrinkles and signs of aging, but tends to develop pimples and various forms of acne. Generally, oily skin can be well-moisturized or dry. Adolescents and young adults have more often oily-moisturized skin and elderly people oily-dry skin. Emulsions and creams of the O/W type and of low lipid content are most suitable for oily skin care. Antimicrobial and antiinflammatory active ingredients are advantageous.
Dry Skin
Dry skin has a dry, dull and thin appearance with roughness of the cutaneous surface and no visible pores. The skin tends to flake and fine wrinkles also tend to appear on the face prematurely. It lacks either water or lipids or both. Dry skin is sensitive to temperature changes, chemicals and environmental toxins and can develop an allergy easily. It should therefore be cleansed with mild cosmetic products avoiding alkaline soaps and aggressive detergents. For daily skin care moisturizing creams of comparatively higher lipid content are beneficial.
Combination Skin
Combination skin is a partly dry and partly oily skin. It looks glossy and oily in the 'T-zone' formed by the forehead, nose, chin and parts of the cheek. The other parts appear dry and dull. The T-zone is prone to skin problems such as pimples and acne. Combination skin care with combination products does only to a very limited extent makes sense. In particular in case of more pronounced combination skin two different types of skin care products are needed: one for dry skin and one for oily skin.
