Skin Penetration and Permeation Studies
Skin penetration and permeation studies are routinely performed in Franz diffusion cells on porcine skin obtained freshly from a local slaughterhouse. The absorption behaviour of different active ingredients is thereby analysed. in addition, the impact of various formulations and of penetration enhancers on the penetration and permeation behaviour of active ingredients can be evaluated. In parallel various cytotoxicity studies can be performed.

Determination of sun protection factors according to the international method
Although the type and concentration of UV-filters have certainly the greatest impact on the sun protection factor (SPF) of a well-formulated sunscreen, it is to a considerably extent also influenced by various other parameters. Consequently tests on human skin are essential in order to determine the SPF. According to the international method SPF is determined on human volunteers, who are treated with the formulation to be tested and are exposed to UV-light under standardized laboratory conditions. Green River Polymers performs such studies in collaboration with dermatological clinics.
